Isn't it ironical tha the 'Green City' is actually made up of 'Concrete Jungle'?

Kelvin Su Wei Jie PDG 20/06

Here in the heart of the city, where the traffic is bustling and the people are many, you still get to see how the urban landscape resembles a concrete jungle. Look behind the trees...do you see a bee hive and a bird just next to it? Look even closer...can you spot the number 3 hiding shyly in the background? It sums up everything about Singapore in a three-word expression which I coin as 'Uniquely Singapore lah!' Such is the beauty of the Lion City though much of its rustic charm is lost.

Some artistic statues located near Raffles Place in the CBD. This shows the cultural and artistic aspect of the urban landscape. This is also part of the effort to portray Singapore as a "Renaissance City", with cultural quarters and architecture.

Like a big city.

The magnificence of the skyscraper(Maybank), still cannot be compared to the elegance and the extravagance of the Fullerton...

When the storm arises, the city immediately turns into a place of darkness, overshadowed by a layer of dark clouds that seem to signal the end of the world.
Yet, the brilliant sparkling lights from within the city are able to offset this morbidity and retain a magnificent view.

versus

The clear distiction between light and darkness in an urban landscape.
Don't the buildings and landscape look like toys?
The urban landscape: seemingly unreal when viewed as a whole, but overwhelming when seen alone.

Looking up...Clouds! A place to unleash your sweetest dreams!

that seem so magnificient when compared to the urban landscape below...

A magnificient view of an overwhelmingly tall building reflected upon the natural beauty of the sky.

Houses and buildings amongst greenery everwhere. don't we just feel cramped?

so far, yet so near. a window into another window.

This place is a building taken from the sky bridge of the Proteos building in Biopolis. Behind the thick glass panel, light coming through is distorted, causing the lines on the side of the building seeming to be wavy. This apply sometimes in life when what you see on the surface may not be the truth beneath.

The paradox today is that people have plenty of leisure, but do not know how to make use of them. Once a while, we should slow down... try something you have never done before... it doesn't take much to make yourself or someone else happy ...

all the things Singapore's urban area is famous for--- the greenery, the transport and the HDB flats
soooooo common for us but others find them amazing..........................

More McDonald outlets are operating 24hrs.. isn't it tiring not to rest at all?

Underneath the bright lights of the city, the developed economy and vibrant lifestyle image,
we still seem to keep our distance from one another.

Somehow the social distance between us can never be re-imaged.

Singapore 'Garden City' concept - this image shows a residential building surrounded by trees, creating a scenic, peaceful atmosphere.

Looking at this picture, we can see that the pollution level in Hong Kong is a worrying problem. Now, the main challenge faced by Hong Kong is whether it can resolve its pollution problem.

A time-space journey from rural to urban; old to new; past to present. It is the goal of every country to travel the down the road of economic prosperity.

the construction of new buildings are such a common sight

that people seem indifferent towards it.

perhaps the urban lifestyle has indeed taught us the art of adaptability

The combination of a mosque, good transport network in the form of the LRT and first class housing in the form of HDB flats, paints a perfect picture of how successful Singapore is in its attempt to build a self-contained town and an efficient public transport system.

At first glance, the picture seems to depict a total dominance of urban structure with a mosque, HDB flats and a condominium. However, on taking a closer look, one would realise plenty of greenery in the foreground which provides a perfect picture of how greenery complements the urban landscape in Singapore and this is a classic example of Singapore as a garden city.

Siow Sheng-Zhong 37/06

View of the city from above. Different combinations of light brightens up the night sky. The river in the foreground show clearly how the city and the environment (natural landscape) are linked to one another.

Oh Boon Ping 20/06

Public housing can be seen behind the private housing. This is the situation in Singapore whereby public housing is more prevalent and dominant due to land scarcity. Buildings are built vertically upwards rather than horizontally.

Suburban housing for the rich. Staying faraway from the air polluted CBD. Your own 5 storey cluster house with a rooftop balcony and personal basement carpark.

Pavitra 23/06

Re-imaging at its best! Old-fashioned shophouses at the sides and modern infrastructure, the pillars, surrounded by the shophouses. In the background, some modern buildings. A wonderful combination. The beauty of re-imaging!

Seems like the building is emiting out gases
Just like the city that is being polluted
